Today we went to Chesterfield (the place, not the furniture) to see the church with the crooked spire and then to Hardwick Hall (the ruined one is the old hardwick hall - partially dismantled for it's stone and then left in disrepair). And the tapestries! Oh oh my! I need not say more - I will show you....

Arrived! And O so tired.
I am looking out the window at a pigeon on a roof. We have made it to Dronfield after our many hours of travel. It is good to be... somewhere, and although we haven't really seen much yet, it appears to be lovely. The drive from Manchester to Dronfield was delightful and I tried desperately to keep my eyes open for it (& succeeded). The trees are bigger here, somehow, and the type of many of them unfamiliar to me. And there are so many ferns! That and the foggy, not-quite-raining weather combines to make it seem quite lush. At several points in the drive, the sides were deep in overhanging trees creating a green corridor of a road. Then it would open up and we could see the hills, always specked with stone buildings and plenty of sheep. It was good to see the sheep & lambs in their stone wall divided fields.
The flights went off seamlessly - on time and with no trouble making our connecting flight. Amsterdam was similar to our present location in terms of weather, so we couldn't see much. The postcards in the shops were lovely, and it was almost tempting to get a couple but there's something wrong about buying postcards for a country you've only seen the airport of. One remarkable thing did happen - I opened my surprise dinner to find... Lentil Curry with rice! And although I still could not procure a list of ingredients (and believe me I tried), I ate it. Don't worry, I am still alive.
Our hosts have been lovely to us, and have a lovely home and I already feel so spoiled. Even to be cooked for is such a treat for me! Tomorrow I think we will go see one of the Halls not to far from here and then have a picnic with J & P's grandkids. The next day we will do some walking in the peak district. That's the plan, Stan. For myself, I am hoping that tomorrow will wash away this tiredness I currently have, and that we will get a chance to explore a little more, even just to walk around the town a bit.
